WHO MAY USE THE LIBRARY:
The library is open to all employees, nurses, members of the medical staff, residents, fellows, and students affiliated with the hospital during the time of their rotation. Please bring your Hospital I.D. badge with you. The library is not open to the general public. Patients and families should speak with the Medical Librarian.
COMPUTERS:
There are four public access terminals in the library, two with printers. All have access to the internet and library medical database subscriptions: MD CONSULT/FIRST CONSULT, EBSCOHOST & MICROMEDEX.
LITERATURE SEARCHES:
Library patrons may perform searches on the library's databases, or ask the librarian to carry out searches at no charge. The medical librarian routinely uses the databases PUBMED/MEDLINE, MD CONSULT/FIRST CONSULT and electronic journal subscriptions in EBSCOHOST.
BORROWING PRIVILEGES:
Most current resources should be available electronically with internet access. Print copies of books and journals and other library materials may be loaned out to employees, nurses, medical staff, residents and fellows, usually for two weeks. The most current journal issues are not usually loaned out. These loans are up to the Librarian's discretion.
INTERLIBRARY LOANS:
If an article or book needed for your work at the Hospital is not in the Medical Library's collection, the librarian may be able to obtain it for you from another library. This service is not available to students. The Medical Library endeavors to find free copies. If there is a charge involved and a large number of requests from one patron, the librarian may use her judgment and not fill every request.
COPIER:
Patrons are encouraged to copy articles of interest within copyright law limitations. Use of the Medical Library copier is limited to copying library materials.
